The Name Game

We are still not inspired. Granted, we only have about 2 months to come up with a fantastic name for our baby and we just can't seem to get it together.

  • Dreese (a Dutch name with spelling changed--it should be Dries)
  • Elias
  • Micaiah (kind of like Michael or Micha)
  • Francis (Hubby likes this one because of Francis Shaffer--it's a no go for sure)

Any GOOD suggestions? Keep them coming!

Okay!
Since you're alright with unconventional names, I'll tell you a few I've always loved, but never had the courage, or the boys to use them on:
August (Auggie, for short?:)
......after Augustine?
Gabe, Gabriel
Abe
Calvin
Ezra
Flint
Frank
Gage
Grant
Henry
Harrison (Harry)
Hosea
Jack
Luther
Moses
Worthy
Samson (Sam)
Steve (which is a beautiful name)
Tristan
Zane
Weston
Peter (Peter Gabriel is actually a beautiful name, too.)

But I think this would sound best with the names of your other two:

Larry.

:)
Can't wait to hear what you eventually come up with!

And then of course there’s :
Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-shin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F’tang-F’tang-olĂ©-Biscuitbarrel, which is someone's actual name, or so I read. He was born John Desmond Lewis. (oh, now!… glad he wasn’t stuck with that name!

Oh, one more thing.
My son has a friend at school -a new kid- named Haden Hobbes.
Doesn't that mean "Hell Devil"?
Isn't Haden Dutch for "Hell?"
I have it in my mind that it is.
And isn't "Hobbs" an old name for the devil?!
See? It pays to check the baby name book for meanings. I mean who cares if the name means "of the valley", or "son of a blacksmith"....but ya don't want to accidentally label the kid with "Hell Devil".

Name him Superfly.
:)
......Okay, now I'm done.

Superfly is definitely out but I like Haden. And Hosea isn't bad, either! But I want to know who you are (if we do know you!). It's a riddle we're unable to solve!

Not that my opinion means anything - but I like Dries a lot - whereas Dreese is a little too girly.

Like the designer, Dries van Noten. Love it.

But the pronunciation is also an issue - I think Dreez is better sounding that Dreese. (which would also necessitate the Dries spelling). But it's more masculine.

I like guys names to sound like guys names, ya know?

Oddly however, I think it's cute when a girl has a kind-of tomboyish name, like Sam or Alex.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Okay, since I live in a cave, I didn't know about the designer. Thanks! The whole trouble with naming children is that it's permanent. Sure, they can change it when they're 18 but they have to live with it for the first 18 years. One of my husband's sisters was named Esther and then changed it as soon as she could. I'd hate to have my kid hate their name.

But I'm liking Dreez. And I don't like girly names, either.

Weird. I didn't see this response until now... but anyway, happy you like Dreez, (or Dries). It's a cool name - and unique. I don't know anyone with it...

But anyway - I'm sure whatever you go with will be cool. How fun! (Coming up with names).

Kinda makes me want another dog.

(Kids later).

Kids are great and I love them but definitely wait. Once you have them you can't give them back!
